White-headed Gull (ad) at Guelper See on 4th of october (1 Viewer)

The image of a adult Great Gull was made at the outflow of the Guelper See in northern Brandenburg/ Germany. First I was thinking of Caspian Gull. But the color of the eye and – of course - espec. the pink feet irritate me. Maybe Herring Gull?

Thanks for ID to the experts.

Cheers

Johannes

Probably a hybrid Herring x Caspian Gull by the look of its head. It has a solid, quite broad p5 mark which is not common in (pure) adult Herring Gulls. And it lacks extensive head streaking, also not good for a pure HG. On the other hand, there exist Caspian Gulls with pale irides, and this one is not completely pale. Still, bill shape and general structure is not so good for a pure Caspian Gull either. An open wing shot always helps a lot in difficult adult type large gulls but of course often it can't be obtained.
