I cant seem to activate my account despite several tries - keep getting 'confirm your email address' but cant see how to do this.

It's the same procedure as BF, remember you do have to register separately at WPF, it's a different site to BF.
If you have created an account there and can't access WPF, send me a pm on BF and let me know, we'll get you sorted out. The e-mail sent to new registrants to confirm thier e-mail address often end up in a spam folder somewhere... particularly AOL users, but many others as well.
