Alternative name: Slaty-crowned Antpitta
- Grallaricula nana
Includes Guianan Antpitta
Identification
Distribution
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, and Venezuela.
Taxonomy
Six subspecies are recognized:[1]
- G. n. olivascens in the coastal mountains of north central Venezuela (Aragua and Distrito Federal)
- G. n. nanitaea in the Andes of Venezuela and adjacent Colombia (Norte de Santander, Santander)
- G. n. hallsi in the Andes of northern Colombia (Serranía de los Yariguíes, Santander)
- G. n. nana in the eastern Andes of Colombia
- G. n. occidentalis in the western and central Andes of Colombia south to northern Peru
- G. n. kukenamensis in the Tepuis of southeast Venezuela (east Bolívar) and probably adjacent Guyana
Clements (2010)[1], Gill and Donsker (2010)[2] and the SACC[3] split Sucre Antpitta from Slate-crowned Antpitta.
Subspecies kukenamensis has been proposed for separation as Guianan Antpitta, Grallaricula kukenamensis, but this has not been accepted by the SACC[3], Clements (2010)[1] or Gill and Donsker (2010)[2].
Habitat
Moist montane forests.
Behaviour
The Sucre Antpitta differs from the Slate-crowned Antpitta in both call and song.
