Distribution

Coniferous forests of southern Mexico (Chiapas) and western Guatemala

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Carduelis.

Habitat

Evergreen, pine/oak forests and scrub. Between 2,300 and 3100 metres.

Behaviour

Terrestrial.

Diet

The diet consists mostly of seeds from various plants. They feed on the ground and at higher levels in the trees.
