Description

Hook-billed kingfisher ( melidora macrorrhina ) 25 cm, feeds on insects, spiders and crickets taken from the jungle floor, lives in the dense dark forest thus not the easiest bird to spot. Nests in termitaria. The difference between the sexes is the male has a blue crown while the female a black or a dark grey one. Found throughout New Guinea, Yapen and the west Papuan islands.
