Synallaxis castanea

Identification

16–18 cm (6¼-7 in)

  • Brownish-red overall plumage
  • Black throat patch

Distribution

South America: found on the coastal mountains of northern Venezuela (Aragua to Distrito Federal).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1], at one time considered conspecific with Rufous Spinetail[1].

Habitat

Montanes evergreen and secondary forests. The undergrowth and edges of cloud forests.

Behaviour

Diet

Very little is known, it is thought they glean arthropods from foliage and branches.
