Identification
19-21cm.
- Slate grey head, neck and breast
- Cream belly
- Small white spots on shoulders
- Rusty primary flight feathers with grey edges
- Dark grey outer tail feathers
- Pink legs and feet
- Orange red iris
- Red eye ring
Female
- Browner head, neck and upperparts
- Smaller eye ring
Distribution
Arid interior of Australia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Arid woodland, lightly timbered country near water, grasslands, gardens.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes grass seeds.
Breeding
The nest is woven from grasses and twigs. The 2 white eggs are laid and incubated for 13-14 days; the young fledgings 2 weeks later.
