Description
Geocerthia differs from Upucerthia in having shorter, heavier and much less curved bill and in its generally darker plumage. Differs from species in Cinclodes in lacking wing bars. Differs from both in having rufous wings, uppertail coverts, and tail.
Taxonomy
Geocerthia is a monotypic genus in the family Furnariidae. Taxonomic results show that this species is sister to a clade that includes the genera Cinclodes and Upucerthia.
