- Tarsiger indicus
Identification
15cm. Blue grey face and mantle, yellow olive crown, long white supercilium, black bill, brown legs, orange throat, breast and flanks, white belly. Female - grey brown above, white eye ring and supercilium, orange buff below, white belly.
Distribution
Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
- T. i. indicus in the Himalayas (Nepal to Bhutan, se Tibet and Assam)
- T. i. yunnanensis in SW China (Yunnan); > to n Myanmar and n Tonkin
- T. i. formosanus in the mountains of Taiwan
Habitat
Dense undergrowth of mixed broadleaf and conifers at high elevations.
Behaviour
A cup shaped nest is placed in a hollow bank; 3-4 eggs are laid.
The diet includes insects.
