- Tachyphonus coronatus
Identification
The male is entirely blue-black, with a narrow scarlet crown patch visible only when the bird is excited. Its under-wings are white but this is only visible in flight.
The female is rufous-brown above and lighter brown below. If seen well she has a breast with faint streaks.
Similar Species
The female is very similar to female White-lined Tanager, but has a duller head and the breast streaks.
Distribution
South Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
