Identification

24cm. The adult male has a large scarlet bib, smaller and darker in female and especially in juveniles.

Distribution

Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Restall2 has a note describing uncertainties in the placement of this species.

Habitat

Humid forests, edges, second growth, and fields.

Behaviour

The diet includes fruits, seeds, sawflies, wasps, bees, ants and beetles.
