Corvus hawaiiensis

temporarily extirpated from the wild

The 'Alala only survives in captive breeding programs while the breeding stock is increased and studied, and its habitat is rehabilitated. The last wild flock lived in South Kona. Early attempts to re-introduce captive raised birds failed. Later attempts may be begin on other islands where the 'Io (Hawaiian Hawk) can't eat them.
