Distribution

Nicaragua, in the El Chocoyero - El Brujo Protected Area. The nesting sites lay within this protected area, but the birds still face threats from the outside world when they leave the reserve to feed.

Taxonomy

Placed in genus Psittacara by Gill and Donsker.

This is a monotypic species^[1].
