Identification

28 cm. Male has blue tail-feathers while the female's are brownish. White bill, black cap, blue-tinged wings, and a pale rufous belly and tail feathers.

Distribution

Lowlands of New Guinea including Kolepom Island, Geelvink Bay islands of Yapen and Mios Num, Aru islands, west Papuan islands of Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool, Heath Island in Milne Bay and North Moluccas (Gebe Island).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic[1] species.

Habitat

Lower forest canopy of rainforests.

Behaviour

It lives in pairs rather than family groups.

It nests in termitaria.

The diet includes insects and vertebrates.
