Identification

15 cm

  • Black head and malar area
  • White supercilium
  • White throat
  • Black upper breast
  • Long bill
  • Short tail

Distribution

South America: found in Ecuador and Peru.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • A. a. abeillei:
  • Arid scrub of south-western Ecuador (Manabí) to north-western Peru (Cajamarca)
  • A. a. nigriceps:
  • North-western Peru (upper Marañón Valley)

Habitat

Dry forests and moist lowland forests. Observed at heights around 610 m.

Diet

Ground feeder, but their diet is not known
