Identification

Photo taken: Anchovy, Jamaica 5 ins (13cm). A large hummingbird. Male has reddish-purple cheeks and sides of the neck, velvety black underparts, purplish-blue wings and an iridescent greenish-blue back. Female is similar but duller. Voice is raspy, sharp tics.

Distribution

Widespread and common endemic to Jamaica.
