South America: endemic to Peru.
Taxonomy
This taxon is considered a subspecies of Line-cheeked Spinetail by some authors[2]
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- C. b.i baroni:
- Andes of Peru (Amazonas and Cajamarca)
- C. b. capitalis:
- Andes of Peru (Huánuco )
- C. b. zaratensis:
- Andes of southern Peru (Pasco and Lima)
Habitat
Moist and semi-arid montane woodland, particularly with alder trees. Observed in an urban area with patches of native vegetation of a remnant cloud forest at ca. 2,200 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of arthropods, and the larvae of butterflies and moths. They forage singly, in pairs and small groups.
