Identification

17cm

  • Grey head
  • Olive-brown back
  • White underparts and throat
  • Narrow, long, pointed orange bill
  • Brown eye
  • Grey legs

Distribution

Southern Iraq (Tigris and Euphrates valleys); winters Kenya to Malawi

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Beds of papyrus and reeds, aquatic vegetation in or around shallow, fresh or brackish water.

The diet includes insects.
