Identification

16.5 cm

  • Grey underparts
  • Dark rufous-brown head, throat and upperparts
  • Dark grey chest to crissum
  • Black bill

Distribution

South America: Central Andes of Colombia to north-eastern Ecuador

Taxonomy

This species was found to be embedded into the complex of 15 others which were previously included in Rufous Antpitta/Chestnut Antpitta.

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies:

  • G. r. rufocinerea:
  • Central Andes of Colombia (southern Antioquia to western Huila)
  • G. r. romeroana:
  • Southern Colombia to Andes of north-eastern Ecuador (north-western Sucumbíos)

Habitat

Moist montane forests.
