Identification

- upperparts and head grey

Females have dusky lores and purer white undertail-coverts.
Juveniles are undescribed.
Similar species
Larger than Wallacean Cuckoo-shrike and with less extensive black on head.
Distribution
Endemic to the island of Buru (southern Moluccas), Indonesia.
A poorly known restricted-range species. Seems to be very local.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Forms a superspecies with Large Cuckoo-shrike, Javan Cuckoo-shrike, Slaty Cuckoo-shrike, Wallacean Cuckoo-shrike, Moluccan Cuckoo-shrike, Melanesian Cuckoo-shrike, Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike and possibly also Stout-billed Cuckoo-shrike.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and montanes. Occurs up to 1500m.
Behaviour
Breeding
Nestlings have been reported in early February.
