Ptilinopus granulifrons

Identification

20-24 cm

  • plumage green tinged golden-yellow
  • head, scapular patches and inner wing coverts grey
  • belly patch purple with yellow edging (latter may be difficult to see)
  • undertail coverts and vent pale yellow
  • cere with fleshy orange/yellowish growth ('caruncles')
  • bill entirely (orangy) yellow
  • iris dark (reddish or amber)

Male: yellowish bill, female: greenish bill.

Similar species

Similar to Grey-headed Fruit-Dove although this is not present on Obi. Differs as follows:

  • fleshy cere knob
  • yellow fringe to purple belly patch
  • iris dark (light in Grey-headed)
  • entirely bright yellow bill (pale yellow with a grey base in Grey-headed)

Distribution

Obi (north-central Moluccas): Indonesia: South-east Asia

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Moist lowland forests, moist shrubland, and arable land.

Behaviour

The diet includes fruit.
