Identification

40cm

  • Grey upperparts
  • Greyish-pink underparts
  • Black collar
  • White throat

Distribution

South-east Asia and Australasia: found in Indonesia, New Guinea and the Aru Islands.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • D. m. aurantia:
  • Lowlands of northern New Guinea (Geelvink to Astrolabe Bay)
  • D. m. mullerii:
  • Aru Islands, southern New Guinea, Boigu and Daru islands

Habitat

Lowland rainforest, swamp forest and mangroves.

Behaviour

Breeding

It builds a platform nest in a tree near wetlands. The clutch consists of a single egg.

Diet

The diet includes fruit which is swallowed whole.
