Identification
Dusky lory is 25-28 cm, sexes alike. The difference between the morphs: - as they are red, yellow and orange morphs - is the difference of the colours of the two narrow breast-bands. All birds have dark brown upperparts and a pale crown.
Distribution
Found throughout New Guinea, Salawati and Yapen.
Taxonomy
This is seen as a monotypic species by some authorities, while others recognize subspecies fuscata and incondida.
Habitat
Lowland moist forests, cloud forest and mangroves.
Behaviour
Feed in large flocks on the flower of different tree species and sometimes seen feeding with the Rainbow lories. Very noisy birds thus easy to spot.
