Australasia: found on islands around Papua New Guinea, Melanesia, Solomon Islands and New Georgia.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 5 subspecies[1]:

  • M. f. viridifrons:
  • Bismarck Archipelago (New Hanover, New Ireland and Lihir Group)
  • M. f. nanina:
  • M. f. tristrami:
  • Vella Lavella, Kulambangra, Rendova and adj. Solomon Islands
  • M. f. aolae:
  • East-central Solomon Islands (Russel Is., Guadalcanal and Malaita)
  • M. f. finschii:
  • South-eastern Solomon Islands (Ugi, San Cristóbal and Rennell)
