• Ashy-brown ear-coverts
• Brown hin, throat and sides of neck, with a scaled appearance

Distribution

South America: found in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 5 subspecies^[1]:

• P. m. phoenicura:

• North-eastern Bolivia and western Brazil (western Mato Grosso)

• P. m. molinae:

• Highlands of eastern Bolivia

• P. m. restricta:

• Lowlands of eastern Bolivia (Palmarito)

• P. m. hypoxantha:

• Extreme eastern Bolivia and south-western Brazil (southern Mato Grosso)

• P. m. australis:

• Southern Bolivia (Tarija) to north-western Argentina

Habitat

Gallery and lowland deciduous woods.

Behaviour

Diet

There is no information about their diet.

Breeding

They nest in a tree cavity.
