Identification

Black upperparts and breast, white eyebrow. Juveniles have a plain grey head with a hint of the white eyebrow.

Distribution

Throughout Japan from Hokkaido to Iriomote-jima.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Near fresh water.

Behaviour

More tied to water than White Wagtail. Nests on river gravels, often in the open. Pairs stay together throughout the year.
