Hydropsalis climacocerca

Identification

Long, W-shaped tail, white markings and white patch on the outer primaries. The female is duller with cinnamon replacing the white on the primaries and tail.

Distribution

Amazon basin.

Taxonomy

Five subspecies are recognized[1]:

  • H. c. schomburgki
  • H. c. climacocerca
  • H. c. intercedens
  • H. c. pallidior
  • H. c. canescens

Habitat

Close to a river.

Behaviour

Nocturnal.
