Identification

Extinct. It was last collected by R. Perkins in 1891 at Kona, Hawaii. There are specimens in London, Tring, Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.It disappeared after introduction of disease. It has been speculated that the lesser and greater koa finches were actually the same species.

Distribution

It was endemic to southwestern Mauna Loa, Kona District, Hawaii

It was a seed eater.
