8 in. Head and upper parts are grey. Throat and cheeks whitish. Neck and chest grey with brown tint. Abdomen and under tail coverts white. Primaries and rectrices blackish. Black bill. Pink legs. Red eyes.

Nests are made in a depression in the ground and 2 grey, dusky spotted eggs are laid which look like stones. They are incubated by both parents who also care for the young.
