Identification
Male 15 cm (6 in), female 14·5 cm (5¾ in)

Female has greenish overall plumage
Juvenile male similar to female, gradually developing the adult plumage, starting with the red crown.
Distribution
South America: found in the lowlands of south-eastern Brazil (southern Bahia) to eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Humid lowland forests, secondary woodland and woodland edges. Generally below 1500 m, though occasionally found up to 1900 m.
Behaviour

Their main diet consists of small fruits and insects.

The males form leks and perform an intricate courtship dance on a low, slender, horizontal branch, sometimes being joined by subordinate males.
