Identification

15–16·5 cm (6-6½ in), a species with long tail and short bill
Male

  • Glossy blue-black head, mantle and back
  • Black uppertail coverts while rump is white with orange center
  • Wings have white greater coverts and scapulars, rest is dark
  • Black tail with white outer edges
  • White underside with orange patch just below the black lower throat
