Identification
15–16·5 cm (6-6½ in), a species with long tail and short bill
Male
- Glossy blue-black head, mantle and back
- Black uppertail coverts while rump is white with orange center
- Wings have white greater coverts and scapulars, rest is dark
- Black tail with white outer edges
- White underside with orange patch just below the black lower throat
Female
- black on upperside replaced by brownish-grey
- White supercilium
- White throat, sides of head, and underside
Similar species
In addition to other species of Minivets, it is worth considering Stonechats
Distribution
India (Punjab and Rajasthan to Bihar and Mysore).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Jerdon's Minivet was recently split from this species.
Habitat
Prefers open dry savannah with grasslands and open dry scrub forest with grasslands
Behaviour
