Formerly placed in genus Myrmecocichla.
Subspecies
There are 5 subspecies[1]:
- M. a. frontalis:
- Extreme southern Mauritania to Senegal, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon
- M. a. limbata:
- East Cameroon to Central African Republic (Ubangi-Shari region)
- M. a. clericalis:
- South Sudan, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and northern Uganda
- M. a. albifrons:
- M. a. pachyrhyncha:
- South West Ethiopia
Habitat
Moist savanna and dry shrubland.
