Identification

10cm. Glossy blue-black, white erectile ruff on the throat and sides of the neck. The female and young males are olive-green with a grey throat.

Distribution

Eastern Honduras to northwestern Venezuela.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Wet forest, adjacent clearings and tall second growth.

Behaviour

The female builds a shallow cup shaped nest. 2 brown-speckled white eggs are laid and are incubated by the female for 18-21 days. The female alone cares for the young.

The diet includes fruit and some insects.
