Identification

Male

  • Lead-grey upperparts
  • Black face
  • White throat
  • White supercilium
  • Orange underparts
  • Black tail and bill

Females plainer

  • Mostly grey
  • Black tail
  • Orange flank tints
  • Throat has some white streaking

Distribution

Eurasia: found from Turkey to Iraq, Iran and southern Turkestan; winters in East Africa.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Dry rocky slopes with some bushes, often at some altitude.

Behaviour

Behaviour

It builds its nest in a shrub. The clutch consists of 4-5 eggs.
