Building nest already! (1 Viewer)

Have spent the last two mornings watching a Robin going in and out of my neighbours lleylandi hedge with leaves, grass and moss.It is obviously starting to build a nest,is this a bit early? I have two robin nest boxes up but these are being ignored and I am worried that the hedge will not offer enough protection from Magpies as last year blackbirds nested in there and they lost all their chicks.

If you could find some thorny cuttings and shove them in around over the Nest maybe. I know one is not meant to disturb nest building but with a Robin you may have a bit of a chance. Get someone to distract the Robin with food while your at it?
I had a Robin nest in a berberis shrub last year, not something a magpie would have an easy time of getting through where it's thick. A pair of magpies nested in the neighbours garden. So if you haven't a berberis maybe you could invest in one at the same time.
