Colin's Bird Diary - 19th October 2007 (1 Viewer)

I received a telephone call to say that the first of the Bewick's Swans had arrived at Slimbridge, so I went down there to take a look. I found 3 of the reported 6 on Rushy Pen including two well known birds from last winter (as told by their bill pattern). This really is the start of the winter. There was no sign of yesterdays Whooper Swans but there was one extra adult European White-fronted Goose.

In the afternoon, I had a walk through Nagshead RSPB reserve, here in the Forest of Dean. 7 Mallard, 11 Mandarin and 3 Tufted Duck were on the southern pond at Cannop along with one of the resident Grey Wagtails. Finally a Dipper was on the brook in Parkend village.
