Griswold’s UK Birding List 2022 (3 Viewers)

Nipped up to Goldcliff with Kev this morning. Weather held off though it definitely felt like Autumn with the Pintails present.

Tried to make a squat rugby ball shaped Dunlin into a Bairds but it was very definitely a Dunlin😂

4 Ruff were also present along with a year tick in the form of a Curlew Sandpiper.

218. Curlew Sandpiper

Nice to get a bit of birding in with Kev before our Yorkshire trip👍

First day of work for me tomorrow so I’m thinking of visiting goldcliff on the way home to sweeten the pill a little. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick out the curlew sands.

Did you get the Gann baird’s a few years back?

Hi Owen. We mistimed the tides. Some more turned up after we left. Got lucky with the Baird’s at The Gann. Did you get it?

Had a meeting in Cardiff today so had a quick lunch break at Lamby. Lovely little pond spoilt somewhat by the amount of dog shit everywhere.

Anyway. The Tern did the decent thing and stuck around. Lovely to watch albeit for too short a period.

219. Black Tern

Only 8 off my year list record with trips to Yorkshire and Cornwall to come. Could be on the cards.

Rich

Good luck Rich with the record breaking, you're a shade ahead of me, and like to remain so.
Cheers James. Not too many easy ones left but Purple Sands should be gettable and hopefully Red Grouse in Yorkshire. Though I won’t too much out of my way to see these. Any Warblers in Yorkshire would be the bonus birds.

Rich

Should be something good at Flamborough. Any chance of you getting down to strumble for some sea birds
Rob is there this morning Owen. I just couldn’t get the day off. I plan on doing at least one at Flamborough. And if the weathers ok, taking the Scillonian over to Scilly for the day. Hopefully might add some Shearwaters/Petrels.

Rich

Caught up with Paul and Rob at Kenfig Pool after work today. And good to meet Barry.

Had great views of the Red-backed Shrike that some birders put a lot of time in re-finding this morning. And the hound was pretty well behaved as well which is always a bonus.

227. Red-backed Shrike

Really pleased to equal my year list record. 🍺
