Texas Indian Paintbrush
Texas Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa: Scrophulariaceae) A very common native spring wildflower. Annual or biennial. The paint-brush like spikes range from 7-20 cm (2.75-7.9 in) long and the plant grows to 20-46 cm (8-18 in) tall. Showy bracts are normally red and green or orange/red and green but can be yellow or even white.
Habitat
Post Oak Savannah vegetation area. Roadside, post oak/yaupon dominated upland at ca. 74 m (243 ft) elevation.
