Very busy at the bird feeder today! (28 Viewers)

1 male brambling, 1 male redpoll, 1 pied wagtail, 2 parakeets - everything else as normal ie. goldfinches and collared doves in droves.

We could do with some more sun here to assist with photography.

After seeing a flock of Waxwings at my Granparents 2 weeks ago, my Dad rang me up this evening to tell me he read on the text about an erruption of Waxwings throughout the UK. Occassional winter visitors normally staying to the coast, has moved further in land. Probably due to the early freeze we had. Interesting info there, I have heard alot of other reports of Waxwing sightings. They really are a beautifull bird. :)

Not much to update here at the mo. I've bought some new feeders and hopefully the Nyger feeder will be here soon (hoping tomorrow morning)

But good amounts of activity from the regulars including: Jays, Robins, Bluies, Greaties, Coal titties, Woodies, Doves, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Blackbirds (the male seems to be more brave and returns more often despite the domiant female), Starlings gradually increasing and a flock of 16 Goldfinch over. Also could hear at one point a Greenwoodpecker in the distance and this evening a GSW was flying and calling at the tops of the Trees at the school accross the road.

Pretty busy today,Bramblings have appeared everyday since they first arrived a few days ago now. Goldfinches, Chaffinch still in high numbers along with Siskins.Plenty of sparrows, and then 2 Long Tailed Tits arrived but only stayed a few minutes.Later in the afternoon a Wren arrived as pictured.

The little pied wagtail with yellow cheeks is back this morning, and has set up camp under the feeders where there are some broken up fat balls, some cake and some bits of failed home-made suet cake (it just fell apart in the damp, but they'll eat it all the same, I'm sure!) Not much else yet but I have been out and a neighbourhood cat is lurking around today too.

Woke up to find a Siskin on the peanut feeder this morning, a first for my garden! I also saw 15+ Waxwing in the neighbouring allotment yesterday, magnificent bird!

The Waxwing are back in the allotment, eating the remainder of the apples they left over from yesterday.

Just had my third new species in 2 weeks. After i had the brambling came the Long Tailed Tits and now a woodpecker on the fence just hope it wasn't a one off. That really was the one i wanted to see in my garden. The only problem is it's a new house with no mature trees.

The kitchen table saga continues - along with the Great Tits, a Nuthatch has also decided it far preferable to take peanuts from the kitchen table than the snowy cold feeders outside! But Nuthatches here are cool tame critters - whereas the Great Tits at lest pause at the door if I am in the kitchen, not so the Nuthatch - hopped along the floor right underneath me and up onto the table, grabbed a nut, then flitted out underneath me!

A ton of snow outside, still falling.

great garden reports with some top winter birds showing for everyone!

Here a Wren again and
No 25. Mistle Thrush
No 26. Mallard over

Some nice winter sunshine too

Just time for a quick post today all the usual birds the past couple of days but also for the past two days we've had a Siskin on the feeders - only the second time i've seen one and in the garden to boot - very chuffed! :t:

The pied wagtail was visiting all day, and I think there's a wren in the hedge but it could be a dunnock (but I really think it IS a wren - just need a slightly better view of it to be sure).

The usual starlings and blackbirds came around, but only one sight of a blue tit drinking. A long tailed tit checked out everything on offer but didn't find anything to its liking and disappeared! It came on to the feeders right near my window, which gave me a lovely close view.

Good going on the Siskin Pam! That is a mega tick in my opinion, never seen any round here and is the bird I woud love to have in the garden most. In fact even to just see, never seen one myself yet. Hopefully it will come back again to your feed and maybe post a pic ;) hehe. Is it male or female?

Only 2 hours worth of my garden today. Was alot quieter that usual, with Greenfinch numbers down, but plenty of Dunnock, Robin and Tit activity.

Nice one with the Siskin, Pam!

Quiet in our yards today and yesterday. Busy nearby and at work, though, with total of 64 species so far. Best bird to date was Eastern Towhee. As this is my USA/Canada lifer #456, I've now seen only about half of the possible USA/Canada species.

Well it's been a busy and quite bizarre day here today. Firstly new 2011 birdies are Reed Bunting, Magpie, pair of Wrens :)t:), Jackdaw and the Woody made a welcome return (more about him shortly).

Had 10 Woodpigeons in the garden this morning which I thought was quite a lot until I looked out the front window and saw a couple of hundred out in the field! Also 50 or more Starlings today and at one point all perforating the tiny front lawn looking for worms. All the usual birds were present too, still half a dozen Brambling.

And now for the bizarre. The resident Moorhen (juvenile) did a Moonwalk! :eek!: Im not joking here, for some reason he was by the pond and started walking backwards perfectly, almost like a display of sorts and then had a preen. Any ideas anyone?
And the Woody too was being strange. I have peanut feeders and fatball feeders out and yet he far and away preferred to feed on the ground and to cling on to the seed feeder, I think he's got hooked on sunflower hearts! :-O

Which brings us to the photos. To get those birds together in the first one is pretty amazing but I think the birds together in one shot for the second one must be a world first! :king:

Had to laugh at your experience! Was it wearing white gloves or just a 'red garter' ? ;)

Maybe it was trying to impress the Brambling? It would sure impress me! lol A real 'Thriller'! B :)

Interesting combination of birds in your pics too; shouldnt be too long before those Waxwings arrive! :t:

A male! Definitely a mega garden tick for me - I almost dismissed as a Greenfinch at first :eek!: - I just wasn't expecting to see it!! I've attached a pic - it was a little shy and didn't pose for the camera very well!

People are having some fantastic garden birds at the moment, the posts are great to read!
