Thanks, yes I do have a copy. The plates are superb in it, as well as the descriptions and hints on behaviour.

I feel I should say that the Redpoll mix up was a few years ago, to save myself;)

there isn't a birder around who doesn't make ID mistakes, I know I make plenty :t:
 
Indeed - I always have to be 100% sure in my mind, or I write it off as an "I will never know" - bit frustrating but I don't like to think I am ever cheating myself.

that's a good way to look at things, I remember many years ago going through my list and cleaing it up... in my youth I was a bit too tick happy, I've much better birding morals now.

thats why i took up photography. then you always have a record shot that you cant id:-O

Thats where I'm at too.

Recently I was at Musselburgh gull roost at the end of the day with a low sun, right behind me. The colours of gulls' legs really stood out and it made such a difference. Although I still couldn't find my first Med:C
