New Zeiss 56mm Conquest HD's (4 Viewers)

This looks like insider info. You must know somebody.

;)

I love big exit pupils. Henry is going to be disappointed that there isn't a 56 mm HT. :)

I am open to correction on this, but isn't this 15x56 a 'first' for Zeiss?

There have been 12x in the past, and a 15x45 Conquest, but I think this 15x56 breaks new ground for Zeiss.

If I am correct this shows a vote of confidence in the 56 class by Zeiss and may herald the arrival (wait for it Henry) of HT 56s, despite me confidently predicting Zeiss might be giving 56s the cold shoulder due to HT 42s brightness.

Zeiss plans 3 new product 'reveals' in the USA this year and at least one in Europe so there is much more to come.

If, despite my prediction, Zeiss does bring out a 56mm HT I will feel compelled to endure a self-imposed cruel and inhuman punishment, for example reading every post Brock has ever written about rolling balls, or (worse) every post in which Dennis hailed a new 'best ever' pair of bins.

Could also be that Zeiss aims at a similar lineup as Swarovski:

SLCs and Conquest HDs in 8x, 10x and 15x56 size, ELs and HTs in the 50 mm size.
Personally I more interested in seeing what comes in the 30 mm range.

Although not 15 x 56 my Hensoldt from about 1955 is 16×56. this could really be called a Zeiss binocular I think.
If the resolution of the 15×56 conquest HD matches this old binocular it will be very good indeed. But it is most unlikely to match its light weight or even the 69° apparent field of view. But it should have much greater transmission and work better on low contrast objects.

Henry and AK prisms

Maybe I just dreamed it but I thought you posted a question asking if these Conquests had SPs or AKs, Henry.

Looking at the picture there does appear to be a bit of an offset between the optical axes of the eyepiece and objectives (although it could just be me leaning to one side :)) so it looks as though they might AKs.

. The 15×56 should be image stabilised.
It is a long time since these were developed and it is about time a reliable low weight low-cost image stabiliser was fitted to these higher power binoculars.
Actually as far as I'm concerned I'm pretty sure that the Canon 15×50 IS will outperform the 15×56 Conquest HD in actual use although they will be more fragile and not fully waterproof.
