Yesterday in Rudong quite a few NFlycatcher and B&WFlycatcher, and one Claudia's Warbler, three Bluethroat, two Japanese Reed Bunting, many Yellow wagtail....
Today in Shanghai a few Eastern Crowned Warbler are singing together with many Pallas's Leaf Warbler.

today in Rudong a few Ryukyu Flycatcher and one male Izu Thrush.
Great news ZL! :t:

On Wednesday, Roger(German birder in Shanghai) invited me to bird with him at State Guest House Hotel. The hotel is for visiting high ranked Govt officials and there are few villas for the Govt officials of Shanghai. So the park grounds are strictly private and secured. Park has plenty of bamboo and so the Warblers. Pallas's, Yellow-browed, Eastern-crowned were the majority. We scored migrants in bits n pieces in the form of Asian Brown, Blue and White, Narcissus Flycatcher, Pale Thrush. But the highlight of the morning was 4 major birds for my Shanghai list. The quiet park held its glory and revealed three Crested Goshawks. A small bird wave had Yellow-browed warblers, Long-tailed n Black-throated Tits.
During last spring, Kevin said he had a nesting pair of Oriental Magpie Robins in his garden but i have never connected with them in Shanghai. There is a good no of OMR's in this park.
I birded in Hangzhou for two straight winters and the variety of birds is a good change to the winter in Shanghai but this year i was bit late to Hangzhou and the birding was not good as the last time. The guest house hotel park is a nice equalizer to get the "Hangzhou feel".

wow - any pix or links to pix!
sorry, just many photos of different individuals of 2cy Ryukyu Flycatcher but not the Izu thrush.

we were setting mistnet to catch some birds. My German guests walked to the van to fetch the net,and I was birding with the others. Then they saw the bird for 5 sec and called us.We looked for it but didnt see or catch it.
Hope to catch some Ryukyu Flycatcher to study them in hand.

similar mystery bird is the Ryukyu Robin last autumn.

sometimes the weather just brings those birds off their islands.

The Hangzhou feel

Pics from last Wednesday. One of the 3 Crested Goshawks in the below pic. As Michael questioned about the distribution of the Crested Goshawks in his "Poyang" thread, i thought Hangzhou was the closest place to Shanghai. Well, looks like its not.

Last weekend

While Kevin was enjoying tropical weather in Fraser Hill last weekend, the common thing between two places is the rain which poured. The murky weather kept the photographers away. No single soul in that place. Long story short, "Bad weather, nice birds." No UFO's though.o:D
