    Falcon - sensitive species

Thanks so much for the replies. Here is the reply I received from Dick Forsman. He thinks it's a Saker of the saceroides variant. He, too, found the bird challenging and said the bird has features of both species. Thanks again for taking your time to write replies. Hi Kaan, Thanks for mail. I...

    Falcon - sensitive species

Hello everybody, I came across this falcon in a deep and nearly inaccesible canyon somewhere in Turkey a couple of days ago. It was flushed by another raptor and spent some time soaring at high altitude before it flew away. I cannot with certainty tell whether it is a Lanner or a Saker. I'm not...

    Greater Scaups?

Thanks for the reply Alexander. We censused the whole lake, and there wasn't a single Tufted Duck in the lake. If these really are Scaups, then I have myself a lifer here 🕺 They are super rare in inland waters of continental Turkey; there are only several records from the region. Thanks again...

    Greater Scaups?

Hello. I found these two ducks yesterday in Central Turkey (Ankara province) in a freshwater lake, and I am having hard time IDing them because of some unusual features they have. These ducks were hanging within an Aythya nyroca flock. What I found unusual about them were (i) they have rather...

How to distinguish common and thrush nightingale calls?

I did study them on xeno and still can't get a good grasp. I really need someone to explain in words the subtle differences between their calls/alarm calls.

    Owl ID help

Hello. I have a very low quality owl photo from last year. A friend of mine took it. It was taken in Middle East Technical University campus in Ankara, on 11.08.2016, at 1.45am. I know there aren't many possibilities and it's a rather easy call but I just wanted to have some expert opinion as...

Mystery gull from Ankara - new photos

A friend of mine has sent me some better photos of the gull in http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=342957. These photos are all untouched and reveal more details for the head and neck. They might strengthen the current ID or maybe even change it. Thanks in advance.
