Western or Clark's Grebe, SF Bay USA

Feb 07. Thought I was taking a photo of a pair of Westerns, looking at the photo I think the bird furthest away looks Clark's ish? Paler flanks, less dark on the neck, more white around the eye, rounder head, shorter bill... Or maybe its just a photographic effect?

    Bay Area, USA Sparrows

Three photographs from my trip in February, first birding visit to USA so finding my feet. First I believe is a 1st winter Golden-crowned Sparrow, second possibly a Savannah Sparrow, third maybe a Song Sparrow. All help appreciated, thanks

    LBJ East of England Today

Hi Saw this bird this evening, it was found in a scrubby area on the Thames Estuary much frequented by Stonechats, I was trying to take some digiscoped photos of the Stonechats when the bird I was trying to photo moved out of the field of view. I brought up my bin's to search for it and...

Probably not the pin-sharpest shot I got but I like the reflection.

North Norfolk a few pointers required as to where and when to go?

Thanks postcardcv for the norfolk info, yes there are some good spots locally to South Benfleet, our local RSPB group has an excellent website that gives details of good local spots (how to get there, where to park, where to walk etc.) www.southendrspb.co.uk and go to 'where to see birds'. The...

North Norfolk a few pointers required as to where and when to go?

I'm going on Saturday for a week staying in Stiffkey. I'm going with my very young family so I won't be able to spend all day birding and wondered if someone could give me a few tips as to where and when to visit the various sites. My birding is going to consist of a couple of hours a day...

    Eyepiece query for ED78

Agreed its a very good fit, does hamper slightly access to the focusing ring (as you can see from Bill's photo) particularly on a cold day if you wear gloves as you need to use your fingertips to do the focusing. But you soon get used to it and its a whole lot better than having no case at all...

    Finch ID

Saw this yesterday on the edge of a saltmarsh in Essex, managed to take a quick snap before it flew away. Photo possibly gives it a little more colour than it had in real-life, don't remember it being quite so yellow (have cropped the photo maybe thats why). Is it someone's pet that has flown...

    Nyjer/Niger Seed and waste

I recently bought a Nyjer feeder to see if I could attract some Goldfinches into the garden. Virtually an instant success - had up to 15 at any one time within a week, they were literally queuing up waiting their turn. So I bought another feeder and in fact a third as well. This has continued to...

    Nikon ED78A to Contax U4R

Before I go and buy the wrong kit, I thought I would ask some advice about the set-up. If anyone has any experience of anything like this set-up I would love to hear it. Firstly I believe I need a Contax 28mm filter thread to enable the camera to connect to my digiscoping adapter? Next my...

ED78A - Thanks to all who recommended

This is my first post on birdforum so you will have to excuse any errors in the way this post looks. A recent sea-watching trip with my local RSPB group brought it home to me that I really needed to invest in a decent spotting scope - I had previously not been keen on lugging the bulky-looking...
