- Black face, throat and hind neck
- White upper breast
- Yellow belly
Amount of black on throat differs among subspecies1.
Distribution
South America: found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Three subspecies are accepted[2]:
- D. t. carrikeri:
- Santa Marta Mountains (north-eastern Colombia)
- D. t. taeniata:
- D. t. stictocephala:
- Andes of south-eastern Peru (Junín to Cuzco)
Habitat
Montane forests and dense understorey of broken forests.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of small fruits and berries, including mistletoe; and insects.
