Taxonomy
Porphyrospiza is a genus in the family Thraupidae.
It was formerly placed in the family Emberizidae and within the Cardinalidae by some authorities.
The two species of Sierra Finches were recently transferred here from the genus Phrygilus. However, based on decision from SACC all three species have been transferred to genus Rhopospina.
