Identification
16.5cm.
- Dark green crown, upper head and upperparts
- Black side of head
- White malar streak
- Black chin, throat and breast
- Dark green upperwing-coverts and tail
- Green breast side and flanks
- Grey belly
- Grey-black legs and bill
Females lack the white malar stripe and their chin, throat and breast is grey. Juveniles like females but duller.
Distribution
Endemic to New Guinea where locally found in the central mountains.
Poorly known restricted-range species. Seems to be rare but habitat is very remote.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Mountain forest. Occurs at 1400 - 2800m.
Behaviour
Feeds on insects and other arthropods.
Forages on ground and on branches near ground.
No information about breeding.
Probably a resident species.
