Skylark or not Skylark ?- thats the question

Thanks Butty! exactly - the photo you posted clearly shows equally dark greater coverts, and yet a pretty dark top

Skylark or not Skylark ?- thats the question

Skylark or not Skylark ?- thats the question :) Why am I asking? - it seems the bird has contrasting black median coverts, quite bright top (mantle, wing), short bill , and delicate lines on the side of the breast. Maybe some southern lark ? I wish :) Poland, Podhale, today

    Herring Gull?

Hi - The Gull with such a clear window on primaries can only be a Herring gull ? (in the 3rd calendar year?)

Gull with an enlarged white patch on the wing

Yes of course - mirros, I couldn't remamber the word :) Thanks - pale parts are visible (imo) especially on pic 6126, but maybe that are sun reflections. My hallucinations were perfectly explained 😄. Great thanks!

Gull with an enlarged white patch on the wing

Hi At the end of March I noticed a seagull with an enlarged primaries patch - it covers not 2 but 3 primaries (illusion?). Additionally, the wing coverts and primaries are somewhat pale. But is everything normal here for Caspian?

    Lesser black-backed gull?

Thank you very much! As always, you are reliable. Your answers make me happy, although they do not indicate what species. But at least I know that I can spot among many individuals the ones that are interesting ;).

    Lesser black-backed gull?

Recently I observed an interesting seagull - it seemed darker to me than the Caspian herring gulls YL. Also, when observing the bird, I had the impression that it was noticeably darker - is it a Lesser black-backed gull? miejsce - Polska , Podhale, kilka dni temu. Additionally, it seems that the...

    Rock pipit

Thanks, co I forgot to consider the most obvious option first

    Rock pipit

I will write briefly - due to the distinct white eye ring and the lack of a distinct eyebrow, I suspect rock pipits. Two different birds in the photos. Place - Poland, Podhale, date: beginning of September. What's your opinion?

One more gull: Yellow - legged this time?

As in the title - I will add that the date is August, Poland, Podhale.

another gull - mixed one ?

Many thanks as always!! I will also ask about features such as a dark belly and a striped tail - should we not pay too much attention to them?

another gull - mixed one ?

So what about this one- Poland, Podhale, august. I can see features of Yellow legged/ Herring/ Caspian , juv. - dark belly (Herring), wing formula (YL/ Caspian), difuse, light wing bars (Caspian), dark primaries and lack of window (YL), striped tail (Herring). Ufffff ...

    Herring gull??

ooops , yes of course ... Thanks, a lot. I'm glad that among all these Caspian ones, I finally "hunted" something else :) Although probably with a pinch of Caspian

    Herring gull??

The plumage on upperwing and mantle suggests a herring gull 2nd summer to me - is this the correct identification? (August, Poland Podhale).

an unknown voice - but distinctive

Great!, thanks very much. I was looking for amphibians, but toads didn't come to my mind. both species are here, but this one sounds like a European one.

an unknown voice - but distinctive

28 may this year (Podhale Poland) I recorded a voice that was unusual for me. It seems to be a bird, I'm not sure. One good thing can be said about it - very characteristic. The environment is a small forest next to a gravel pit, with many meadows around. What do you think?

    gull with a black eye

Location - Podhale, October 8. This time it doesn't seem to be a Caspian gull. Black eye, missing bright stripe on the wing, dark underside. But the yellow-legged gull is also out of the question - you can see the window on the wing. So ...?

request for help in identifying a bird (probably an owl) by its voice

Poland Podhale 28 april this year. Hello, I only have a voice, is it an owl, what kind? It's about the voice at the end of the recording (although the screeching in the middle may also come from the same bird), I assume it's an owl, but I don't know. The voice seems to be similar to that of a...

    not Skylark, but ... what

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any more photos. I agree with most of Alex's conclusions, neither Crested Lark nor Corn Bunting nor Skylark fits here, beacause of some reasons. However, something can be seen in these poor photos. Maybe I should start by saying that the day before, a Short...

    not Skylark, but ... what

While thinking about this bird (April 23 this year, Podhale Poland), I came to the conclusion that this shape (stout, short, small beak) excludes a skylark, but it is definitely some kind of skylark. What ? (and am I even thinking correctly ?). Sorry for the photos quality.

    thrush , Poland,

It may be so, it may also be small twigs, we will never know. Unfortunately, the dense forest and wetlands prevented me from following the bird. But probability indicates redwing . Thanks again !!
  24. Michał Jaro

    thrush , Poland,

Thats not so obvious. When you enlarge the best quality photo - you can see the twigs, but the bird's flank seems to be without streaking. Yes, I know, the photo quality leaves much to be desired .....

    thrush , Poland,

Thank you all for your help !!, okay, I admit it ;), I thought there was a chance for Eyebrowed thrush. It appears in Europe and the first winter birds certainly have a distinct eyebrow. It's allowed to dream :)
