Location - Podhale, October 8. This time it doesn't seem to be a Caspian gull. Black eye, missing bright stripe on the wing, dark underside. But the yellow-legged gull is also out of the question - you can see the window on the wing. So ...?

I admit to not having seen many Caspian Gull Michael but this looks OK for one to me, I’d call that a pale underside ( the axillaires I assume you meant) not dark. No doubt one of our gull geeks will put us right!

I would probably go for Great Black-backed, but as Richard suggests, best hang on for the Gull savants.

looks best for Caspian Gull, marinus excluded on e.g. on greater coverts which look patternless. slight stritations on head are ok for 1st winter cachinnans. Of course a hybrid (with Herring Gull) can't be excluded on such photos.
